5 things I'll miss most about Davis
Coming from San Francisco many people questioned whether I would like Davis. San Francisco is crowded, busy and hectic, while Davis is smaller, slower and quieter. Though it is super different, I absolutely loved it. It is an awesome college town that is perfectly balanced. It's small enough so you can run into your friends in town, but big enough where you can find a secluded spot if you want. It’s slow so you can walk or bike everywhere without feeling rush, but not too busy so you can get places quickly. It's quiet so you can sit outside peacefully, but if you need a listening ear the people of Davis are super friendly. On top of all that, the weather is great almost all year which means tons of outside activities, shorts and no jackets. Its been less than two week now since I officially moved out of Davis and I already miss it! Here are the 5 things I'm going to miss most.
1. Farmer's market
This is for sure number one on the list. Held on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings the Davis Farmer's Market is a favorite of students, locals and visitors. The market is full of awesome local fresh produce, delicious food, and wonderful farmers. Located in Central Park with a huge grassy field area, it's the prefect gathering spot for friends and families to sit and hang a while. I'm definitely going to miss my warm Wednesday evening there with my favorite eats in hand, monyotas tamales and fatface popsicles, the live music, and of course the company of great friends.
Personal picks- Fat face popsicles: mango sticky rice, Montoya's Tamales: Chile Verde, Bare Juice: King Kale, All Produce is amazing!
Side note: The Davis farmers market holds a super special place in my heart! I actually love it so much I wrote two papers on it in my time at Davis!
2. Nature
The UC Davis campus and surrounding area all around is freaking beautiful! It's full of trees and greenery. I used to love taking walks in the campus arboretum and I'm definitely going to miss being able to just sit by the water under a tree and clear my mind. Less than 20 minutes away there is also Putah Creek in Winters. Not only is Putah Creek beautiful, but so is the drive there. It's a bunch of small back roads and if you go during the right time of year, all the sunflowers are in bloom too which is amazing! Putah creek is super special to me because one of my all time favorite memories was adventuring out there to the rope swing on a extra hot spring day! It was super spontaneous and we were only able to do it because Putah Creek is so close.
3. The Campus Coffee House(COHO)
The Coho is a central spot on campus. Throughout my four years, the Coho was always my post-morning workout spot where I studied and ate breakfast. I loved it because I could do homework between classes, have a meeting or just catch up with friends. It was also a place where a lot of people hang out and I always loved running into people! There were also a ton of seating options, tables, booths, outside on the patio, or on the grassy quad and I was able to find a great spot to get cozy and get a lot done!
4. Thai Canteen
The best Thai Restaurant in Davis. Others may beg to differ, but it's my favorite spot to eat in town! This easy order at the counter place is reasonably prices and super authentic . I have had close to everything on the menu and its all delicious! It's hard to choose my favorite, but Pad See Mao and Panang Curry are definite go twos. (Sorry no pics of this one, I'm always too eager to eat. You'll just have to go into the restaurant and see the food for yourself.)
5. The colors
There are seasons in Davis, where the leaves change and fall off the trees! This a a new thing from me because coming from San Francisco we didn't have that, so I loved when the seasons changed. That and the Davis sunsets!
If your reading this and have never been, I hope this post convinced you to make the trip! I promise you'll have a great time.
Well, see you soon Davis! I won't be able to stay far long. Thanks for all your goodness and memories!
